Pinging 900

Another Question-

I noticed this morning that when I floored my '92 965 to get ahead of a car on my way to work, there was a rattling noise coming from the engine compartment when the rpms hit about 4.5K rpm. The noise went away when I let off the gas. This is the first time it's ever happened. Pinging, right? Now, my question is...how does a car with two knock sensors, a very complex computer-controlled distributorless ignition system, and running on Premium unleaded...ping? No check engine light and it has plenty of power. I thought the idiot light was supposed to come on and the timing severely retarded when the "brain" detected somthing askew with the knock sensors? What's up? I'm going to try pulling the knock sensors off this weekend and clean the mating surfaces...

TIA, Lance
