Hole tapping question

"...happened to 5ave this 1/4"-20 tap..."

Sounds like it's time to run a 1/4" clearance bit through everything, use a nut 'n bolt, button it up, drive it. At this point, I'd install the pan minus the missing bolt -- and once in place, run the drill through everything. Use a lockwasher or double-nut it.

"...how is teaching going?"

Very well, thanks. Grades submitted Tuesday. This was an unusual semester -- 2 F's, 1 C, and 15 A's (A-, A, A+). I tried a new approach to teaching eng'g students, and it seemed to work.
