Air conditioner 200 1986

Hello people, I am new to the board but I've had my 240 wagon for about 12 years and still like it. I've always thought I was pretty good diagnosing it's problems too. Here goes: Car bogs down when a/c compressor comes on. At high highway speeds, there is no problem that I know of. There is a high pitched noise like a belt slipping lowering in frequency ( sounds like binding to me) and the red lights come on on the instrument cluster like it is going to stall. Being the self confident fix anything person that I used to be, I replaced the compressor. This did not fix the problem. I am tired now and a little frustrated and was wondering if any of you might share your insight. I don't think that it is just the belt, because it tries to die. I think this compressor is good (used but good) because the characteristics of the problem have not changed in the least.
