Intermittent starter motor failure. 200 1987

87 245 - 270K - I installed a new NAPA starter, battery cable, ignition switch about 10 months ago. Everything OK for 10 months.

Lately, I sometimes get a solenoid click but no crank when I first turn the key. On the second try, I get a good crank and she starts right up. Wifey says she had to try it "several" times at the grocery before it started. I have never had it fail on the second try.

The NAPA (not Bosch) starter has a "lifetime" warrenty. It cost me $111 plus core. If I pulled it and took it back to NAPA, they would probably test it, say it is OK, but then give me a new one to install.

The first starter NAPA gave me was a Bosch rebuilt. It lasted one week. I took it back, they tested it, agreed it was bad and gave me the NAPA with the lifetime warrenty. As I recall, I was not even getting the solenoid click from the Bosch once it failed.

Any suggestions?
