swapping engines 700 1989

I have an 89 760 turbo wagon. I blew the engine a year ago and had a used one put in. This one is about to go -- a lot of bottom end noise. Through this on-line resource I have learned the 'K' block, which I have, is not as strong as the last modification around 92. If I were to look for a 92 or newer motor to 'fix up' and install, are there any wiring or other problems I might face? I would like to rework a 'newer' engine so that it generates an honest 200 hp without jeopardizing the emissions levels. Should I rework a 'K' engine with beefier rods, etc. or look for a newer block and try to 'make it fit?' Thanks for any suggestions.
