A/C fuses blowing 200 1987

The A/C fuse in my 1987 245 blows after a couple minutes of use. It used to blow the fuse every now and then (less than once/year, I've had the car since new); that didn't bother me. But now it does not pop right away but doesn't take long.

Anything I can look for? Is this a sign that death is imminent?

Possible Clues:
- I installed some gauges in place of the pocket a couple months ago so I could have jogged some wires loose, but I've used the AC quite a bit since then with no problems until last weekend. If there is a problem there it didn't begin immediately. I rechecked the thermostat connections, don't see anything obviously wrong.

- The A/C adjuster knob (the thing with the capillary tube on the back) has gotten kind of flaky over the years, could a problem in that thing blow a fuse? Maybe I should replace it with a switch? I know what that twist knob is for but I have no idea how it works (what does that tube do?). I tried the archives, couldn't find it.

Thx,

Terry
