SRS light comes on during start 700 1989

I have an 89' 745 GL, with just short of 175k. Most recently the "SRS" instrument panel light comes on during starts and will not go off. When this happens I typically, shut the car off, give it a few seconds and then restart, with everything running smoothly. When the "SRS" light does come on, all of the auxiliary gadgets like the power windows, a/c, radio, headlights, turn indicators, horn, etc. all fail to work. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.___mark.
