How to change A/C compressor oil

I think I understand your apparent dilema.
You should be aware that the oil circulates through the whole system, and does not just stay in the compressor. The objective when replacing components is to put back in an equal amount of oil that you drained from each of the old parts. You will probably find oil in the receiver dryer. Oil can also reside in the condensor but most of it stays in the compressor.

When refilling oil add a little bit more, an ounce or so for insurance and to compensate for seepage and leakage over the years and for what residual oil may not have completely drained out of your old parts. It is not an exact science. Oil can even be added to a system while charging the freon through the vacume side port.

I am not sure of this but I think some new/rebuilt compressors may come prefilled with a certain amount of oil.
