Valves and synthetic oil S90-V90

Hey Brickboarders,

I'd like to pass this on as information and to solicit any thoughts and/or recommendations. My mechanic recommended and, after I okayed, put in a synthetic oil in my V90, re: Castrol Syntec 10W-40. This was in response to those noisy valves which starts around 20K miles. I've got 60K miles on my '98 V90. I kinda got used to the sound before this change in oil types plus I've got a one-year old son who requires a lot of time which means I don't baby the V90. So I don't know if there is a big change in the noise level, but the mechanic says there sure is. My mechanic was using an additive (of which I can't recall) before all of this. It seemed to work now and then. It didn't completely abate the sound at all times. (The additive was clear and thicker than syrup.)

Regards, Rivdog
