'89 240 tire question...help!

Maggie -

The stock tire size is on a label on the rear edge of the RF door. Compare that with other sizes at http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html to see what happens to the speedometer error.

The speedometer is set to show miles driven according to the circumference of the stock tires. It takes revolutions per mile and translates that into speed and miles driven.

I have run 205R/70-14's on the rear and found the error very small. That size is close to 195R/75-14 and 185R-14 which, I think, is the stock size.

I make no recommendation on brand. I have run Michelin's, Arizonians, BF Goodrich, Pirelli's, and since Houston seldom snows/ices and I can drive in wet weather OK, I am usually happy with whatever lasts the longest.

Good Luck,

Bob
