If I disconnect the battery, does it screw up the radio? 700

I have Dave Barton's new turbo gauge face that I want to install. In the instructions it recommends disconnecting the ground to the battery. If I do that, does it screw up the radio or anything? Is there an unlock codeI need to get the radio working again? Or can I just disconnect it?
