Center bearing change 200 1980

OK, I've played around with this noise thing long enough. To recount, between 50-65MPH rattle eminates from release fork / bearing area. Mechanic thought it was u-joints. Had him replace them. No relief. Clutch & pilot bearing replaced after onset of problem also with no change to noise. Nothing on the exhaust system is at issue. Thinking next to R/R center bearing & center support. (Something has to be causing some significant vibration on the shaft to make the fork rattle, right?) Question: Is this logical progression?

I've read previous posts on changeout and it looks like a doable job. Two things keep me from charging ahead: 1) How exactly does the drive shaft come apart and how do you mark it to reassemble in-phase, etc. 2) Is there any way to tell which of the two sizes of bearing / support I will need before taking the whole thing apart (I'd hate to explain being late to work Monday for that one).

Thanx in advance for your help.

Chuck
