Backup light stays on all the time! 200 1986

About a week ago, I blew a fuse (#12) in my '86 245 GL while trying to roll up too many windows at once. I replaced the fuse, and shortly after that I was made aware that my backup lights were lit whenever the car was running.

Based on some advice from the bbd, I took out and examined the switch under the (auto) shifter. It was greasy, I cleaned it, but otherwise it looked fine so I reinstalled it. I did not test it electronically (I didn't know what to look for...), but it looked mechanically sound.

The lights are still on.

I'm not sure that the blown fuse was related, but since the backup lights go through that fuse as well, I figured there was a small chance .

What should I do next? I searched the archives, but all I found were people with the opposite problem (light not coming on).

Thanks

Chris
