I asked Mobil1 also.....I'm a curious guy!

Some things in my very humble and often wrong estimation about Mobil1 Supersyn:

1) They lowered the esters...
2) They changed their additive package...
3) They lowered the Phosphorus % (antiwear compound(s)) in anticipation new EPA regs...
4) They are using some different basestocks from the IV group. (Still PAO's)
5) Tri-syn didn't help from the marketing guys point of view, change names.
6) Amsoil has NOT sampled nor tested the Supersyn. Amsoil is past due to publish some new test data....I bet my $20 a month I make from Amsoil if the test results are even close to Amsoil, Amsoil will reformulate to make the quality gap wider as it is now.
