87 240 Front Brake job - Virgin DIY seeks guidance 200

I am preparing to replace the front pads and rotors an my 87 245. I've never done this before. I have new ATE rotors, PBR pads and teflon shims. I have the Bentley manual. Before I begin, I ask the following:
1. Are there any special tools that are necessary or would make the job easier?
2. Are there any special procedures/precautions that I should be aware of?
3. Is it important to check runout? Is there an easy way to do this?
4. Do I have to remove the calipers? If so, do I replace the bolts?
5. Any other potential surprises?

Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks
