Dramas on starting 140-160 1974

Hello All,

My 164 has never been great for starting when the engine is cold, but over the last while things have been getting progressivley worse. As it now stands the first 3-4 times you turn the key on a cold start theres not a hope in hell of the engine turning over. 5-6 attempts you hear a little something, give it a bit of petrol and the car startings sputtering to life. I have to tap the gas a few times while its warming up of it conks out, once the idle evens out it runs like a champ....starts up on the first second go no difficulties when its been run for a bit.

ideas?
