Desperate...Need Help........Engine problem 700 1988

Sounds like a possible AMM problem. Disconnect it and see if car starts. Car will run without in limp home mode which sounds like what you described. If bad it can sometimes prevent starting, disconnecting it may allow car to start. Not a fix just a test.

Puzzled by what you said about the fuel pump. It runs continally not in spurts. Pressure is controlled by the fuel pressure regulator at the fuel rail. This device returns excess fuel back to the tank.
