How to get muffler out of junkcar? 700

It's a stupid question - I know.
The muffler on the junkyard cost 12 $, so I could save a buck or two.
But how do I get this damned thing out? I took it down from the rubber connectors. I opened the shocks so the axis is a inch lower.
But there is not enough space to get it out in one piece.
What holds the axis up. Is it connected to the springs?
I got already bloody fingers and it's a PITA.
Should I cut it with a saw?
