where is this mythical gear selector shaft seal? 200 1985

I'm 90% sure this is my problem--tranny fluid is leaking right onto the exhaust and smoking on my 1985 240--this is especially bad if it's been sitting for a while. I found this in the FAQ:

http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/TransmissionAuto.htm#SealLeakageinAW70LTransmission

But where the heck is it? I crawled under there and couldn't see it--all I saw was a bunch of red fluid around gear selector shaft and on the exhaust. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place (I'm not a genius at this stuff). I have a diagram in my Haynes book but it doesn't show where the seal is. Any diagrams on the web that might show me where to look? And if I find it, will I be able to do the repair easily myself? I know IPD sells the part for $4. I'm hoping that I can just push the old one back in as mentioned in the FAQ. Thanks for any help.
