A/C working now, but not for long- 700 1988

I am not convinsed that you have a leaking evap (based solely on hissing noise) unless you really heard it hiss for a long time. Is the charge of 134a gone now?

Many people confuse the hiss of the gas equalizing across the orifice when the engine is just shut down. Remember, you have had the compressor on, high pressure liquid on one side of the orifice and compressor, and low pressure gas on the other. when the compressor is shut off, by turning the engine off, it is likely that you will hear hissing, where as if you shut off the compressor off while the engine is running, very likely that you will hear no hissing.

Mine hisses when it is shut off, and yes, I have 134a retrofit too.
