My opinion only....

When installing the belt, rely on the marks stamped/cast on the sprockets and engine casing etc. and ignore the little marks the belt manufacturer paints on the belt. You don't know who put those marks on or what they drank/smoked for breakfast.

Also, if you are using the mark on the damper pulley for a reference, and it is the type with the rubber cushion between the outer and inner pieces, it may have slipped and is no longer a reliable reference.
