my electrical set-up, the source of my troubles? 700

1985 745t

so as I stated in an earlier post, I recently suffered a relay meltdown on the headlight and front fog light relays. I've now cleaned the relay seats, replaced the ones that were fried completely, replaced the relay holders (old blue versions) with new ones (grey versions) that use negative space between contacts, and cleaned up the relay contacts.

However, my front 3 relays (aformentioned two and the power windows relay) are still running extremeley hot. I don't burn myself immediately anymore, but sustained contact beyond 2-4 seconds is intolerable and moght result in a burn. In addition, with all the lighst going fuses 3, 21, 22 all run fairly hot as well (3 is the front fogs I believe, and 21 and 22 are the mains for the lighting system if I remember correctly)

What the hell is my brick's issue? Is there a ground that might be loose or other problem I'm missing? I would imagine the heat is just caused by resistance either in the relay or at the contacts in the board, but it "should" be fine. Are the additional electronics I run:

- sidemarker lights off the turn signals and flashers
- portable cd-player off an aux lighter jack tapped into main lighter circuit
- radar detector off a second aux lighter jack tapped into main lighter circuit

(the aux lighter jacks are radio shack units set into holes I drilled in my dash and tapped into the existing lighter wiring with wire clamps)

increasing teh drain and causing higher heat? I wouldn't think these small items woudl be enough to really tax my brick, but I don't know enough to say with authority either way.

I'm preparing to just buy al new relays for teh front at this point and be done with it. However, I really don't want to pick up three new relays only to discover that they don't solve my problem...

Any help or insight is appreciated. As a 411, I haven't replaced my harness but I have reconditioned it and patched it and fixed up the headlight contacts a bit.

Thanks in advance.

-rt
