and then. . .more spedometer troubles 200

1984, 244, s-l-o-w-l-y moving towards 200,000.

After driving about 10 miles, the spedometer drops noticably. After some extended driving this afternoon, it only registered about 25 mph when going 70. The odometer turns, albeit slowly.

This started after getting transmission rebuilt recently.

So what's up fellow bricksters? For some additional background, the odometer crapped out last year at about this time. Sent it off to Speedometer Plus (I think) to get that fixed. Also replaced the spedometer cable with a new one at that time.

Have checked the cable at the spedo head. All appears normal. Have checked at the transmission end. All appears normal.

Could it be the little plastic final drive pick up gear that is now starting to slip? Did I get a bad cable?

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Thanks in advance.

D
