Instrument panel won't come out more then 1 1/2'. 200

Someone recommended pulling the instrument panel off to get better light/access to the deeply buried brake switch that died on me (which makes sence to me). Well, I got the plastic trim pieces off and removed the four screws holding it in place, but I can’t pull the panel out more then about 1 1/2" before it stops. I figured I’d be able to pull it out far enough to disconnect the wires and spedo cable, but it feels like there isn’t enough slack. How do I get the panel off?
