single carb sttings 120-130 1965

HI,

My amazon is back on the road for good, safety check passed, I'm happy etc, etc. BUT, a smog test showed that the CO level is abround 6 "instead of 4-4.5" said the examinor. I don't know if any of you have used or use the B18A with the Stromberg 175 CDSe on it, but could it be confirmed/denied that 4-4.5 is standard on such an engine? Or do the Strombergt carburetted Amazon have to run rich?
I tried to adjust the thing this afternoon by following the procedure I found on an MG fan's site (essentially the same as tuning a single SU btw). I excpected to have to lean it a bit. Before touching anything, I tested the mixture (by lifting the air valve a bit at idle): tuned as it is now the carb indicates a lean mixture (lifting the air valve makes it stall), whereas the smog test says it's too rich!!! Any idea? Is there a trick with that kind of carb?

Thanks in advance
Séb
