Engine or Turbo woes! 700 1988

Hey Bricksters,

Last week my 88 765ti w/186,000 miles started sounds like a lawn mower, at boost. First I thought it was the turbo, I took the inlet pipe off the turbo and the turbine spun freely there was no play, back or forward movement. So that tells me the turbo is ok?.. Next I decided to test the engine, so I rev'ed it in park without getting into the boost, took it to about 5,000 rpm no strange noises. When I rev'ed her in park or when just normally driving with a little boost I get this knocking sound, almost sounds like an old beater car that has NOT been taken care of. It seems like the noise is coming from the back of the engine bay. I dont have any loss of power. Suggestions from the Brickboard Gods would be great!
