Ignition sticking,starter keeps spinning. 200 1983

I recently replaced the #1 wire from coil by splicing some new wire where it was bad. I got the car running again which was a relief. In fact it was running good for 15 min or so before it started to make a contact noise in the starter. There is a toggle switch under the dash that has to be turned on in order to start the car. When I went to turn off the engine because of the noise the engine kept running I took the key out and put the key in and the engine still ran. I even turned the switch off and it ran, I eventually diconeccted the coil to cut the engine. What could possible be going on at this point. Then when I went to start the car again it just made that overwinding starter noise, also causing me cut the engine again from the coil. Thanks also for my other questions that everyone has responded to in the past.
