Overheating/ Instrument Cluster Question 200 1989

I have been trying to find out what has caused my overheating problem. The thermostat, radiator, and coolant have all been changed. I have cleaned and put the temp compensation board back in. My brother has another 89 240, and I was wondering if you could swap the two complete instrument clusters. Sounds like a dumb question, but on my brothers car there is a connection to one of the connectors(circled in the picture below), but on my car, there is not a wire hooked up. I was wondering if I'd mess my entire cluster up if I switched mine with his w/o this wire hooked up. Also, if anyone knows what this connector goes to, that would be great.
