Is there a way to repair paint blur under door handles/gas cover? 700

The paint job on my 1990 740 GL Wagon is in great shape except for some cloudy/blurry spots under my gas cover, the door handles, and the door locks. The PO apparently liked to keep his locks oiled and had a tendency to top off at the gas pump. Are there any special rubbing/polishing agents that can help restore the mirror-like finish in these areas? It's the only body imperfection visible from more than about 5 feet away. It's not worth taking it into a body shop, but I wonder if there's something I can do myself or if I should just live with it. Thanks in advance.

Rick from Springfield, IL
