Moaning Brake/Steering Noise in 245 200 1988

Hi,

Was wondering if anyone could identify this problem: my 1988 245 makes a rather loud "moaning" noise from the front end when I am going at slow speeds (and thus braking) and making sharp turns. Some further characteristics:

1. it seems to be louder/more prominent when making left turns--particularly into my parking spot.
2. it is intermittent; some days it makes no sound whatsoever (like when i had it in the volvo shop for servicing!) and other days it consistently makes the noise.
3. when the volvo shop looked at it, it of course did not make the noise. they checked the steering anyways, and said that the system looked fine.

my brother-in-law thinks it's a ghost but i am thinking more and more that it must have something to do w/ the front braking system. any thoughts would be much appreciated. thanks.

michael
