Check engine light on, confused by codes I got. 700 1990

Hello,
My check engine light came on, so I printed out the handy guide on the FAQ and came up with codes 231 AND 232. These mean that the "Fuel trim (lambda control) too lean or too rich at part load (232) or idle (231)". I scratched my head, cleared the codes, checked it to make sure, then restrated the car and the check engine light came back on. I did not touch the throttle, so I guess that is the idle fault coming into play, right?.
Anyway, any suggenstions as to what to do next would be appreciated.
Oh, the car is a 1990 740 turbo automatic with 155k miles on it. In good shape and regularly maintained otherwise. Always uses California Super Unleaded at 91 octane (nothing super about that!).
Thanks,
Jim
