Newbie to Board asks: are those r134a conversion kits worthwhile?

Hi, I have a '90 740 wagon, and would like to convert the a/c from r12 to r134a. Do those kits work or is it a complete ripoff? The PO of my other car (1987 Porsche 944) used one to convert it, and it works great. So I'm tempted.

Thanks in advance.

Thaddeus
