240 stalling 200 1990

My 90 240 has a problem that i can't solve. When it's cold, i start it up and drive about 1 mile and it stalls. It will crank with some gringing, idle's good and will rev up. I put it in gear and it dies. We do this about 3-4 times
and finally it goes and does great for the rest of the trip, even if i turn it off for awhile. I've put a new pre pump, filter and hose. Cleaned the throttle switch and the throtle switch is working correctly. I've cleaned the wire that goes to the positive side of the battery and cleaned the fuse panel..any ideas.
