Red wire to fuel pump relay melting. 200 1982

Hello All;

The red wire to the fuel pump relay is melting on my car. I have seen info about resoldering or replacing if the relay gets hot. Does this apply to the wire getting hot also?
What are the common causes of this wire problem? I also read that the fuel accumulator could be plugged or the main pump could be failing, both these problems cause too much draw on the electrics. I would like to hear from anyone who has had the same problem with the wire melting and how you solved the problem.

That would be great.
