Tuning up my wife's 87 240 DL, I believe it is the B23 engine???

Anyway the damn rotor button will not come off. Is there a trick?
The Haynes manual just says to simply pull it off. It doesn't work.

Anyone out there have any suggestions, or know how to do it?
