960 Exhaust Manifold Gaskets 900 1995

Getting ready to replace leaking exhaust manifold gaskets on my 960. Studs and nuts look to be in decent shape.

I've got a can of PB Blaster which I intend to use on the nuts for a few days before beginning the project. Can I still drive the car without the heatshield that surrounds the manifold without causing some other problems? Will I need to replace the nuts? What are the chances of breaking off a stud?

Any additional insight welcome. Thanks.
