HAMMER Time!! 200 1993

I am going to replace the inner tie rods on my 93 245 next week and need to remove the outer tie rods from the steering knuckle..I don't want to ruin the rubber boots from the brand new outer tie rod ends. I have a pickle fork and several BF hammers. I don't have one of those "Cheechy" tie rod pullers so flagrantly shown in the Haynes manual(reminds me of the Victoria's Secret catalog).
That leaves me no choice but to HAMMER on the knuckle.Never done it before. I suppose one loosens the nut till almost all the threaded part shows and then WHACK the knuckle. Any hammering on the nut to drive it down or not?
Gracias in advance.
