Grills and headlamps 200

On the early 240 models, did any of the ones with a single 7" dia. headlight on each side ever have a grill with more of a checkerboard pattern, similar to the pattern which is now used on the XC70? About an inch between the horizontals and 2 to 2-1/2 inches (just guessing) between the verticals. I could swear I have seen a picture of such a grill on a 240 but I have an active imagination.
While I'm on the subject when did they start using the 4 headlight set up? 1979? I ask because I keep seeing an orange 245 with the single lamps and I just wonder if it's original or if someone converted it. It has ID badges like those on a '79 and I'm thinking it's '78 or earlier since '79 244's and 245's had four headlamps.
