AC switch question 700

Hey What's up!
I had my ac changed over to the 134 about two years ago along with a new compressor.
Lately it has been working spiraticly. I opened the hood when it was on (and blowing warm air) and found that the compressor wasn't turning.
I asked a friend of mine and he said it may be the pressure switch. He told me to jumper it out and indeed it did turn on the compressor. My question is has anyone one had a similar problem and indeed is this the cause. Should I replae the switch and where is a good source?
Should I recharge the refrigerant? Looked in the FAQ's and couldn't find how many cans to use.
Well thanks in advance.
