Get a Bentley.

If you already have an ECU and it's the right one (last three digits of the Bosch pn should be the same).. swapping them shouldn't hurt.

If it's running rich.. makes me wonder. Have you ever (or has the PO) replaced the wiring harness on your car? Why do I ask? Cause I wonder if the ECU thinks that the coolant temp sensor is giving weird readings. This could be a faulty sensor or could be because the wiring has gotten this bad.

Any hard starting problems (esp. while warm)?
