Sorry..How to recognize FRIED overdrive relay??? Or is it just Demons? 700 1989

Hola Bricksters:
The "shift-up" red arrow on wifemobile (89 non-turbo 740, AW 70 tranny, 130Kmiles) won't go out even if the OD button on shiftknob is fondled often. OD goes in or out during highway speeds as if a small demon was doing the shifting at it's own whim.
I've noticed that the OD relay is loose in the socket of the relay box. How can I tell if the OD relay is fried or just loose? I've tried opening the OD's contacts so it makes more friction with the socket, still works off and on.
I guess I should try to "Fosterize" it. Or should I just buy a used one from our valiant Volvo recyclers?
Gracias,
el Raidman
