Now indicators only light up, do not flash, 240 wagon, 1980

Indicators finally seem to have quit flashing, up till now if I retried putting them on a couple of times they would flash. The lights front and back of the car do light up when I put them on, but that is all. I have checked the fuse box, fuse seems ok and other things on that fuse are functioning.
When I took it down - for what lately seems to be my weekly visit to the shop - a couple of weeks ago of course they worked just as they are supposed to and they could not get them to malfunction, and so they said that they seemed fine.

Help, sometimes I DO actually need to turn left or right, had to go straight ahead yesterday, when I really wanted to go left, because I could not indicate that I wanted to turn.
