Trans fluids in a '64 122 120-130

It's been said
that going to synthetic in a motor that's run on dinosaurs all its life
can cause damage.
The idea is that all the crud that builds up in the nooks and crannies in the engine is flushed out by the synthetic oil, then gets circulated through the motor, causing damage.
This is particularly true of old VW engines, which have no real filtration systems.
