Aftermarket lights and power source 1978

I recently installed a set of Cibie 7" round headlights and am currently using the stock wattage bulbs. I plan on upgrading the wiring to the lights using relays so that I can run higher wattage bulbs without worrying about frying the wiring; but I'm not sure where I should get the power from: the alternator, or the battery. If I get the power from the alternator, which contact point do I use, the one with the red wire? So, has anyone upgraded their wiring harness for the lights, and if so where did you get the power from?
