The rear seal is a time-consuming job, but does not really require any intelligence or special skills. The parts you need (seal and seal housing gasket) costs less than $10. The rest is all grunt-work. You will either need a transmission jack or another person who can help you remove and re-install the transmission. Other than that no special tools are needed other than a socket set, a breaker bar, and some long extensions.
Why don't you take it back to the shop that just replaced the seal, and make them do it over again, or at least explain why their shoddy work isn't good for more than 5K miles?
Make sure it's actually the rear seal that is leaking. It could also be the distributor seals (on the back of the head). When they leak it can make it look like the rear seal is leaking since in both cases oil leaks from the bottom of the transmission bellhousing. It could also be a leaking valve cover gasket.
Make sure your PCV system is clean and that the intake manifold vacuum ports actually draw vacuum.
