I don't know if I can let myself live this one down. I'm a tech. I can't belive some of the things I see come into my shop........... but now I show my own stupidity!
I ...... um ....... er ....... ugh ......... well .......... was driving down the interstate @ a resonable rate of speed (reasonably irresponsible that is), some where in the tripple digits.........
Anyone guessed the problem yet?
I was rocking out to the tunes from the audio system I had just finished straightning out & NOT looking @ the guages.
It wasn't untill I looked into the rear view mirror to see if I was clear to change lanes, that I saw quite a trail behind my car & knew I had screwed up.
Blew the return hose @ the pump side & cooked my dear car's heart. There isn't a piece of plastic attached to the engine that's not melted, the timing cover is a blob. 198k on that wonderfully reliable engine, even cycl compression & ZERO problems,,,, I was looking forward to adding it to my other 200k + Volvos & I killed it :(
Well, I lucked up on a 86 740gle from a junk yard that didn't like dealing with Volvos, It's got 83k on it & runs like a top. I've gotten it out of the doner & a friend is putting it in as I type as my Bride's afraid I might have a stroke.
The car will be as good as before, but it'll never have the same claim of ZERO mech probs to 198k.
Long story short, I'm replacing a bad engine that wouldn't be bad & would give me @ least another 100k all because I didn't watch my guages that one time (I'm big on watching the guages & such, I "used to say I always did". Well, the lesson here is that it doesn't matter that you've done it right a million times, all it takes is one careless day.
