A Hot Overdrive Question 200 1980

Hi, All!
I have been having a problem where my Overdrive (M46) seems to falter. Seems to be a problem related to heat/ hot weather (like everything else this week, eh?). Normally I'd be able to use the OD at 40 MPH and above (below 55 or so, I am easy on the gas pedal if using the O.D.). Yesterday, and on another recent hot-day trip, I slowed momentarily to 50, from 65, only to have the car suddenly seem to be in "Neutral" when OD was on, and stick was in 4th gear position. It even jerked down out of O.D. to 4th once. I have heard of some kind of seals in the OD going bad, and maybe hot fluid has lower viscosity and and blows by the seals (so pressure is not maintained?). Is there anything I can check/ do? How expensive is a fix for this, etc.... Meantime, I am not running OD below 50 MPH.. Thank you --- Joe
