Volvo 240 DL is overheating 200 1987

Recently bought a used 240 DL which is in overall excellent condition. However, there have been problems with it overheating. It boiled over twice, once in heavy traffic and the other time while my daughter (who just got her license) was practicing parallel parking for a long time.

I have replaced the thermostat and the water pump (which appeared to be faulty). However, the needle still continues to climb close to the red point, though the car has not actually boiled over since.

Looking for a quick reply if possible. Thanks,
