service light

about a month ago i had left my marking lights on and came back to the car having found that the battery had died. looking for anyone to help i waived down some guy and asked for a jump. he put the cables on backwards and the jumper cables began to smoke i reversed them and started the car. about 2 days later my service light came on and for some reason turns off after driving for around 10 min. could it be the battery, any leads, let me know.
