240 kick down jam 200 1990

Very often this is caused by a cracked sheath around the core. Water seeps in and rusts, and it jams the cable. In the winter it will freeze, with the same net effect except that it might thaw after the engine has warmed up.

The very best repair is to install a new cable. I did this to my '86, for this reason, back in '96.
